Sometimes life brings you little gifts when you least expect it. With a spur of the moment contest entry and a stroke of luck, I won two tickets to a private session with Foster the People in the basement of Webster Hall. The band was in town getting ready to rock NYC with sold out shows at the Music Hall of Williamsburg and the Bowery Ballroom, and here we were lined up on 11th Street at 11:30 AM. That’s definitely a first. A NOON show?!

As we walked down the stairs into the basement, we couldn’t help thinking of all the bands that have passed through these doors and showcased their talents in one of the most intimate settings. The space was just big enough for the 75 or so other people, and the tiny stage which brought us no less than three feet away from the band. We were some of the lucky ones.

The boys played a short but sweet set that included a rare stripped down version of their addictive single “Pumped Up Kicks” and “Don’t Stop” which rounded out their infectious and carefree California sound.

The session can only be described as a fulfilling tease. They got us just high enough that we could ride the wave straight out the door and back into reality feeling a little more optimistic about life.

I cannot wait for this band to blow up. Epic.
