Nice to meet you, Reeve Carney.

Reeve Carney is the reason I go to rock shows.  There are few places more blissful for me than in the company of fresh played music with a group of humans that it has to pass through to hit me.  It’s always in a crowd when I feel the most solitude (hence finding peace in NYC), and at a rock show I can be moved while standing still.  When it happens, every time, I fall deeply in love with whoever is making it happen.

Like approximately 30 million other people, Reeve Carney came to me in my living room on an otherwise ordinary Wednesday evening during American Idol. I was teetering between sober and not. I was just trying to be entertained. I knew I was going to hear Beyonce, Gaga, and Jack Black. I knew there would be some duets, some jokes from Seacrest, and probably some bland remarks care of Jenny from the block. I knew (because I knew!) that Scotty was going to take home the win.  But I had no idea I was about to meet Reeve Carney.

The day that Oprah walked out, Reeve walked in.

It’s not just because he’s pretty. Although, he is isn’t he?! But a few seconds into his moment I proclaimed out loud, “this guy is gonna be the most googled person of the day!” What I meant was: ‘I’m gonna go google him.’ It was simple, really. There was magic smacking me across the face and for a short time I was paralyzed.  That’s usually how I know. The song titled “Rise Up”, written by Bono and the Edge, is an incredible piece of pop rock. And not to miss a chance to touch the pulse of pop culture, Bono and the Edge were there on stage, too. But who cared? I could only wonder, who is this young man stopping the whole show?!

So I googled. Reeve is from a tree of magic-infused Carneys. He has embraced the pavement of New York and the sunshine of LA – two things that I hold up to divine measures. He’s the front man of his own band (called Carney, obviously) with his brother and two good friends. And what these four dudes do is hidden in the magic hat, too. I have a feeling not for long.

Like an addict with an empty bag, I’ve been waiting for the next young man to come along that could embody what I love so fully that it would rock my world.  Hi Reeve. Now that he’s here, it’s my turn to show up. I’ll go to him.  On July 25th I’ll be at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC to let Carney, fronted by Reeve, take me on a magical adventure in a crowded room.  No one will see exactly where I go to, but when I feel this love for myself I will put it in my pen and give a follow up to this entry. In the meantime, I’ll give you what’s been keeping me alive: the acoustic version of their debut single “Love Me, Chase Me” from the album Mr Green: Volume 1. Now go, google away.
